With my first year of college almost completed, there have been many new items that I have learned this year than I have learned in high school. In high school, many things aren't taught to us. Examples include being introduced to APA format, what professors are like, and what your college life consists of. I wish I would've been told in high school how to APA format because I had to teach myself to create a cover page and how it differs when writing a paper from just MLA. I wish I would've been told more about the opportunities that exist at college. There are many more opportunities than just clubs. There are service opportunities, jobs, and many ways to connect with others that haven't been introduced and used in high school. I wish in high school there would be some ways I was taught about time management because there are times where you may have no homework, or you may have a good amount, and with a busy schedule, you have to learn to take on those tasks on your own and complete them on time. I have experienced that my professors are nice and can be more 1 on 1 than what high school teachers say. With some classes, the amount of work can differ, and in high school, it was said that we would more than likely be overwhelmed with homework. One myth about college is that it prepares you for future jobs, but in some small aspects, certain classes that may not follow your major or classes intended to be taken for your major may not have a big impact on how your career is shaped. The truths that college is more 1 on 1 with your professor and the many opportunities give students the confidence to grow and trust their fellow professors and students to build their future. Working in one area like your major helps you grow and make connections to help assist your career down the road. These three truths help increase the skills necessary to get you to work well with others and prepare you for your future career. These items will help grow the necessary connections to grow your resume and profile to grow in life and excel at everything you do. Myths are created because many people view and see college differently. We all have different experiences and work differently. No matter what, college is one of the greatest experiences of your life. The illusions that professors aren't approachable and that college isn't for you are wrong, and maybe for some, it is. But, the people who miss the opportunities they take will follow the myths and take the lies. This lying where students learn that college or certain aspects can be lies can hurt their sense of wanting to grow in their studies and continue to grow in something if they hear bad things. These lies can hurt one's reputation and personality. Thus, lying is wrongful, and giving students the wrong ideas can deter them from wanting to pursue a potential career path and can damage their goals and their actions. Students need to be given proper information to live and learn successfully.
